Frequently Asked Questions
What is SoloScript?
SoloScript is unassisted coding practice: short, automatically graded drills in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, HTML, and SQL, plus a free-form Sandbox — all with autocomplete and AI assistance switched off, so you're exercising the skill of writing code from memory rather than editing a suggestion.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Every free exercise works with no account at all — your XP, streak, and progress are saved locally in your own browser. Signing in with GitHub or Google is entirely optional, and exists only to sync that progress across more than one device.
Is SoloScript free?
The Beginner tier in every language, the full HTML and SQL curriculums at that tier, daily streaks, weak-spot practice, and viewing the leaderboard are all free with no account required. A paid Supporter subscription unlocks Intermediate and Advanced exercises everywhere, the full Sandbox, and joining the leaderboard. See Pricing for current rates.
What's the difference between the main track, HTML, SQL, and the Sandbox?
The main track covers JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Go, and Java with graded drills. HTML has its own curriculum, graded by rendering your markup and CSS and inspecting the result. SQL exercises run a real SQLite query against a seed dataset and grade the actual result set. The Sandbox is a free-form, multi-file editor (JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML/CSS/JS, and Python) with no grading at all — for building or experimenting beyond the fixed exercises.
Is my code graded by matching it exactly against one solution?
No. Main-track and HTML exercises are graded by recognizing known-correct approaches, and known common mistakes, in what you wrote, not by diffing your code line-by-line against a single canonical answer — a different, equally correct way of solving it is still accepted. SQL exercises compare your query's actual result set to the solution's, ignoring column names and order and, unless the exercise is specifically teaching ORDER BY, row order too.
Does SoloScript use AI to write or check my code?
No. No AI is involved anywhere in the editor or the grading. That absence is the entire point — the app exists to practice writing code without an assistant finishing your thoughts for you.
What happens to my progress if I stop practicing for a while?
Nothing is lost — your XP, levels, and which exercises you've already solved don't decay or reset from inactivity. Your daily streak is the one exception: it specifically counts consecutive days practiced, so it resets if you miss a day.
Is there a leaderboard? Do I have to join it?
Leaderboards are entirely opt-in and off by default. Viewing one is free for anyone; joining, which requires a Supporter subscription and a nickname you choose yourself, never your real name or account details, is the only way your XP becomes visible to other users. Leaving removes your entry immediately.
How do I cancel my subscription or delete my account?
Both are self-service from your Profile page, no email needed. Full steps are in the Help Center.
